The Garmin Forerunner 205 is a must have for serious runners and fitness buffs alike. The 205 is a combination of fitness manager software and a GPS navigational unit. It is also very similar to the Forerunner 201 which preceded it but there are several major improvements on the 205 model. The two most obvious differences between the two watches are their size and shape. The 205 is smaller and more compact when compared to its predecessor. The 205 also comes equipped with the ultra sensitive Sirfstar 3 receiver which is a big improvement over the 201. The 205 was designed to be used for running, walking, jogging as well as biking. The Forerunner 205 is a very light device weighing a mere 2.7 ounces. It also comes with a compact monochrome LCD screen and a built in antenna. The computer can be connected to a computer via a USB cable. This will allow 205 owners to exchange their work out information with the watch as well as a Motion Fitness program that can be installed on any computer. When compared to older Forerunner watches, the 205 outperforms them in terms of signal reception. Even thick forests and urban areas with tall buildings will not hinder the watch from receiving a signal. The unit can also be used with Mapsource to help users deal with tracklogs and waypoints.
